The Night, They Say . . .

John Callahan had a warped sense of humor, and his primitive art style matched the humor. As is well documented, Callahan was a quadriplegic who had limited use of his drawing hand, but he wielded a pen almost like a scalpel.

John Callahan died on July 24, 2010. His life was part tragedy, part triumph. I choose to remember the latter.

From the book, THE NIGHT, THEY SAY, WAS MADE FOR LOVE by John Callahan. William Morrow and Company, Publishers, 1993. Drawings are copyright © 1993 John Callahan.
